Throughout my career, I have been working at the interface between chemistry and (bio)physics.  After obtaining a Master in Chemistry (1991), Master in Physics (1992) and PhD in Physics (1996) at Ghent University (BE), I was a postdoc researcher at ETH Zurich at the Laboratory for Physical Chemistry (CH) (4/1996-12/2001). In January 2002, I was appointed as a professor at the University of Antwerp (currently Full Professor) and since 2008, I am Guest professor at the University of Hasselt (BE). I have (co)supervised 20 defended PhDs and am currently (co)supervising 4 PhD students of which 2 will graduate in 2024. 4 defended and 1 running PhD were joint with international partners (via a MSCA EJD project https://paracat.eu/wp/about-us/). On average 1-2 postdoc(s) are working under my guidance.  I am one of the PIs of the recently founded TSM² research group (Theory and Spectroscopy of Molecules and Materials) of the Departement of Chemistry (UAntwerp). Furthermore, I am one of the promoters of the Centre of Excellence ‘CASCH – Catalysis for sustainable organic chemistry’ at the University of Antwerp. Together with Sofie Cambré, I manage the UAntwerp EPR facility, which is unique in Belgium.
